Overview of printed electronics R&D activities in mainland China
It has been over 8 years since the Printable Electronics Research Center (PERC) at the Suzhou Institute of Nanotech was established in 2010, at the time when the R&D activities in printed electronics (PE) in mainland China were just emerging. While the PERC has grown to become a leading force in China pushing the PE from research to industrialization, the PE activities were also spreading across the mainland. Research centers with main focus on PE sprung up. Central government as well as a number of local governments has launched funded programs in various aspects of PE development. One sign showing the growing interests in PE from academic and industry was the number of people attending the annual national PE symposiums, which is increasing every year since 2010. As the founder of PERC, the author has personally witnessed the development of PE in mainland China over the last 8 years and has a few successful stories to share. The talk will give an overview of the PE development in China, with views and comments on industrialization and commercialization of PE, as well as on the future trends and opportunities.
