High Performance OTFT Materials for Printed Organic Electronics

Presentation Abstract:

Truly flexible and cost-efficiently manufactured devices are needed for many applications e.g. for displays, sensors, smart packaging, IoT and many more. The active matrix backplane of Thin Film Transistors (TFTs) is one key element for many of these devices. Organic Thin Film Transistors (OTFT) , which can be processed from solution using organic inks, are an attractive option to manufacture truly flexible active matrix backplanes cost-efficiently. The
combination of low process temperatures, a cost-efficient process and the inherent ultra-flexibility of organics is unique. Our portfolio comprises a variety of ink sets consisting of organic semiconductors, dielectrics and auxiliary materials. In order to ensure a fast transfer of the OTFT technology to different production lines at our customers, our ink sets are designed to suit a wide range of industry-relevant manufacturing processes, enabling fabrication at low manufacturing and equipment investment costs. The inks within each ink set have been thoroughly adapted to each other to guarantee the compatibility of all layers in the stack and the homogeneity necessary for mass production.
A further simplification of production processes can be achieved by using our
photopatternable semiconductor and dieletric materials. This direct patterning method reduces the number of process steps significantly. For the application in backplanes for LCD and OLED displays, requiring higher field-effect mobilities, we present our high performance semiconductor materials offering mobilities in the range of up to 4cm 2 /Vs.
